the Lovely story
Lovely Ice Cream started during the pandemic, almost by accident. We were stuck at home – Conor, a full time ski teacher, and Alexis, a studio portrait photographer – since our jobs had to take a pause during the first big lockdown. Having a passion for food and a background cooking in restaurants, Conor decided he was finally going to tackle a challenge he’d always wanted to: making ice cream the true old fashioned way, from scratch, and all from real, whole food ingredients. Alexis was very supportive of this endeavour, having a passion for eating and a background in trying out any food Conor had been making for her over the past 20 years. She enthusiastically photographed the process of Conor building recipes, making test batches, and perfecting his first few flavours, and she shared the photographs on social media. This very quickly resulted in a lot of incoming messages asking “how can I get some of this ice cream?!” so we started to give mason jars of Conor’s ice cream out to friends and neighbours, and eventually the friends and neighbours of those friends and neighbours. We got to the end of the summer, as Conor was getting ready to go back to his ski instructing job, and realized we’d given out between 400 and 500 pints of ice cream! With that much demand after only a few social media shares, we decided to take a leap, find a commercial kitchen to work from, and build Lovely as a real business for the following summer.
Since then, we’ve expanded to having three mobile venues out and about in the community, built our very own production facility, hired on a fantastic team, and in the spring of 2024 we opened our first brick & mortar shop in Canmore.
We believe that people deserve to feel immense joy in life, and one of the things that brings us true joy is really good food. So we are proud that Lovely is made with both freshness and the highest quality in mind – from choosing to make it in small batches, to using only real food, no chemicals, artificial stabilizers, colourings, or added air that you might find in factory-produced ice cream. We are proud of creating refined flavours that are timeless and appealing to ice cream lovers of any age, from every walk of life. We care deeply about each and every treat that leaves our kitchen, and we delight in the fact that it will be enjoyed fresh, within a day or two of being made.
